Commissioned for Revive! curated by Galitzine Mackenzie in a church crypt in Paddington, Lift reinterprets the plainsong notation on the walls of Ninian Comper’s Chantry chapel dedicated to Mary Magdalene. The piece was recorded in the space and played every 30 minutes during the exhibition. It is both celebratory and subversive, recalling Jesus’ radical emancipation of women.
