STARLINGS (where do you come from?)

Sound piece with performance. 7 minutes.

November 2017

Starlings was commissioned for a curatorial research lab for Asia Triennial Manchester 2018, investigating themes of immigration and identity. Each Autumn, starlings arrive in the UK from the east, leaving again in Spring. People drive hours to catch their astonishing murmurations; some see them as pests. Their dull plumage is iridescent up close. When starlings fly they signal to each other with calls learned over time.
